Jahrestag des Kriegsendes soll einmalig als gesetzlicher Feiertag begangen werden
Der Berliner Senat hat am Dienstag einen Gesetzentwurf eingebracht, der den 8. Mai 2025 einmalig zu einem gesetzlichen Feiertag in Berlin erklären soll. Damit würde die Stadt den 80. Jahrestag der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus und der Beendigung des Zweiten Weltkrieges in Europa würdigen.
Der 8. Mai 1945 ist in Deutschland ein nationaler Gedenktag, an dem der Opfer des Nationalsozialismus gedacht wird. In Berlin wurde dieser Tag bereits 2019 zu einem zehnten Feiertag erklärt. Der Senat begründet den einmaligen zusätzlichen Feiertag im Jahr 2025 damit, dass der 80. Jahrestag des Kriegsendes ein besonderes historisches Ereignis sei, das angemessen gewürdigt werden solle.
Der Gesetzentwurf sieht vor, dass der 8. Mai 2025 ein arbeitsfreier Tag für Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer im öffentlichen Dienst sein soll. Auch Schulen und Kitas sollen an diesem Tag geschlossen bleiben. Der Senat hofft, dass auch Unternehmen und andere Institutionen dem Beispiel des öffentlichen Dienstes folgen und ihren Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern den Tag frei geben werden.
